The Munchies: How Cannabis can Make you Fat
Everybody knows that smoking weed is going to make you fat because of the munchies. A study done in 1988 published in the journal Appetite from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine looked at six adult male research volunteers. They put them in a residential laboratory for 13 days, and food intake was continuously recorded. Just as you would expect, when they smoked marijuana, it significantly increased their total daily caloric intake by 40%. The men were offered all kinds of foods, but both during private and social periods, they increased their consumption of snack foods especially sweet items like candy bars or soda.
